About National Geographic Explorer

National Geographic Explorer, operated by Lindblad Expeditions, is a first-class expedition ship with state-of-the-art technology for the ultimate experience in exploring life above and below the sea. It is a fully stabilized vessel with a steel-reinforced ice belt designed specifically to navigate polar passages while providing a smooth ride.

The ship accommodates 148 guests in 81 outside cabins in 8 room categories. Cabin category 6 and suites 7 and 8 have balconies. A glass-enclosed observation lounge provides exceptional scenic views. Installed beyond the open bridge, a remotely controlled crow’s nest camera with real-time footage broadcasts on high-definition LCD video screens in each cabin for a bird’s-eye view of the action outdoors.

Lindblad Expeditions

Explorer is equipped with unmatched exploration tools, such as hydrophones, HD cameras and video microscopes, as well as a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that can explore the ocean at depths of 1,000 feet. An undersea specialist accompanies every cruise and provides expert explanation of the undersea world. The ship carries 14 Zodiacs with a unique internal boarding mechanism that allows guests to embark the Zodiacs quickly from the ship. Another thoughtful touch is a mud room with lockers located just outside the Zodiac landing, making it easy for guests to store boots and expedition gear. A fleet of 36 kayaks are available for independent exploration of remote and pristine Antarctic sites.

Designed with nature in mind, the fitness center has large floor-to-ceiling windows providing a 180-degree panoramic view. The spa center features two treatment rooms with skylights and a relaxation room with sauna. Dining is on a single-sitting basis with unassigned tables for informal mingling. The Bistro Bar with piano and the Chart Room offer an intimate dining experience and a change of pace from the main dining room.

Also on board are a full-time doctor, Internet café, laundry, two wellness specialists, undersea specialist, a photo specialist, and a video chronicler who produces a unique video/DVD of your trip. All expeditions are renowned for the quality of naturalists, expedition leaders and the National Geographic experts who share their insights and add to guests’ understanding and appreciation of the complex and wondrous environments of Antarctica and the Arctic.
