Loire Valley with the Kids
Journey through the Loire Valley with one of Frontiers' favorite suppliers, Butterfield & Robinson, for a glimpse of the France you know from the tales of Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood. On bicycle tours you'll coast past quaint villages, alongside meandering rivers, through romantic forests and, of course, tour the châteaux that made this region so famous. Kids will canoe and parents will swim in the seemingly unlimited opportunities in the luxurious Loire. This itinerary, designed especially for families, combines culture, history, the opportunity to be active and, most importantly, a ton of fun!
The Château de Brou, a fifteenth-century fairytale castle and your home for a day, overlooks the Vallée de Courtineau and a private park. This activity-filled day will include a bike ride along the Indre River and an exploration of the castle's picturesque gardens and moat with family-friendly guides. Kids can try their hand at the ropes course in St. Benoit le Foret. At day's end, you will enjoy dinner in this Renaissance château's formal dining room.
At the Château de Marçay, a property nestled in the Chinon countryside, you can relax at the pool and delight in fine dining. This region is home to Château de Rivau, a medieval castle once frequented by Joan of Arc. During your two-day stay you can wander beneath truffle oaks, stroll in the 12 "fairytale gardens," and learn to make honey. Parents can venture on their own or stay with the kids as they learn to fence with a professional swordsman. Later, kids can canoe the Vienne River while parents bike toward the Fontévraud, site of the gothic Royal Abbey. This is just a taste of what you'll experience.
Your final two nights will be spent in the luxurious Manoir de Restigné. This intimate residence is an impressive addition to the majestic landscape of the Loire Valley. Here, the kids will be entertained with age-appropriate French culinary lessons and horseback rides.
We invite you to savor France's present and past, from farmhouses to fields of sunflowers. This 6-day/5-night trip can best be enjoyed with children ages 5 and up although special departures for families with teens can be customized. Multiple departure dates are offered between June and August, starting at $5,795 per person based on double occupancy.
