The 4-passenger ALEGRIA is positively an ideal choice for two couples looking for an exclusive and enjoyable experience.  Owned and operated by Olivier Baudry, a Frenchman with a vision, this barge features many “chic, sleek and unique” design features that you simply won’t see on other barges.  One way glass in the cabins assures privacy even when the towpath is just feet away and a small freeform pool—imaginatively illuminated at night—adds flair to the deck space, spiced up with several cranberry-colored market umbrellas.  An impressive lunch served onboard in 2010 concluded with softly spiced poached pears, served with ginger and lemon ice creams and cinnamon cookies—a favorite dessert during the 3-weeks in France!  Alegria also features a starlight cruise illuminating the tall rows of canal-side sycamores that provide an ethereal cathedral affect from the water. The translation of Alegria is joy, cheer or happiness, and all three are assured onboard this stylish and inviting barge.

Meeting Point: Saturday afternoon at any one hotel or rail station in Carcassonne, Narbonne or Beziers/Montpellier (depending on cruise direction).
