1940s and 1950s vintage trains have been revived for the American Orient Express. The "Great Transcontinental Journey" takes travelers coast to coast from Washington D.C. across America to Los Angeles in 10 days. Stopovers include Savannah in Georgia; Charleston in South Carolina, after which the fashionable dance of the 1920s was named; New Orleans, the cradle of jazz on the banks of the Mississippi River; San Antonio in Texas; Santa Fe in New Mexico; and a visit to Arizona's Grand Canyon. They now also offer trips in the Canadian Rockies and the Copper Canyon.
Some of the much loved itineraries are being resurrected as well as several new and exciting ones. The Rockies & Sierras trip from Oakland to Denver will be back in the lineup operating three times in May and three more in late October/early November.
The Canadian Rockies roundtrip tour from Vancouver will be running again with three departures from late July through the first half of August.
One of the new itineraries being offered is a 5-night Pacific Coast Explorer trip from Seattle to Oakland.
