Owned and operated by Orient-Express, the charming 8-passenger Hirondelle can be booked on a cabin basis or chartered for exclusive use. As a single-deck boat, it has extra headroom inside and one bed in each of the twin cabins that is 6’ 7” long—perfect for tall travelers. This barge is bright and airy due to the salon’s large skylight, and a beautifully coordinated decor uses inviting and tasteful fabrics, which complement the rich hardwood floors. There are four cabins, one with a large, fixed queen bed, and three identical twin cabins. Upstairs and outside you will find lots of great deck space for alfresco dining and to watch the passing scenery. This barge enjoys fastidious maintenance and an extremely professional crew. During the first half of the 2012 season, the Hirondelle cruise route in the Sancerre region includes a lovely visit to the enchanting small town of Apremont to see the private chateau and gardens. During the second half of the season, the Hirondelle will cruise in the Franche Comte region on a rarely visited route that the seasoned barge captains always love: the Doubs river to Besancon, which features a Citadel by Vauban. This will be a top-notch barge experience representing excellent value for 2012.
Meeting Point: Sunday afternoon. Included in the barge rate are roundtrip first class, high speed TGV train tickets between Paris and the town closest to the barge mooring, plus roundtrip transfers between the barge and rail stations. Pick-up at a central Paris hotel and transport to the Paris rail station on Sundays available for charters only.
