The dignified 8-passenger Princess was once owned by billionaire shipping magnate, Mr. Daniel K. Ludwig, for customer entertaining, and is now a member of the esteemed French Country Waterways fleet. This extremely well dressed lady meanders through the famed Champagne region during the spring and early summer months, the moves to the charming Alsace region for the remainder of the summer and autumn months. In Champagne the barge floats along the Canal de l’Aisne a la Marne, touring many of France’s most celebrated champagne houses and premier cru villages. History buffs will appreciate the attention to the region’s memorials to the Great War as well, including visits to the historic Chemin des Dames and the American Cemetery and battlefields at Belleau Woods. In Alsace, highlights include a scenic drive along the famed Route de Vin with a private wine tasting, and visiting a chapel with a stunning stained glass window by artist Marc Chagall. Foodies will find a highlight to be dinner ashore at the 1-star Michelin restaurant Le Cerf for Alsatian cruises, and the 2-star Michelin restaurant Les Crayeres in Champagne.
Accepting individual cabin bookings or intact charters, the Princess provides a grand floating home-base from which happy guests can explore Champagne or Alsace. In addition to the superb daily excursions, cycling or walking on the well-maintained towpaths is always a possibility.
