The beautiful 6-passenger Saint Louis cruises a unique route on southern France’s canal Latéral à la Garonne. Keen to pioneer a very special corner of France not classically known as a hotel barge destination, Saint Louis’s innovative owners have chosen a waterway that remains virtually unexplored by other luxury barge operations. Guests on the St. Louis are greeted with a genuine warm welcome from the Scottish owners, Alasdair and Barbara, for their voyage of discovery in this enchanting southwestern corner of France. The St. Louis—a favorite of Frontiers travelers since 1995—has been updated with quality furnishings throughout and is the perfect floating base from which to explore the numerous bastide towns and rich heritage of the valleys of Lot, Tarn, Baise, and Garonne. Three equal cabins boast heavenly beds that can be made up as two separate or one large (78-inch-wide) bed. Each cabin has porthole windows, good lighting (great for in-bed page turning) and individual controlled heating and air conditioning. Two distinguishing hallmarks of a week on St. Louis: Barbara’s brilliant cooking, and exploring an amazing sector of France with a wealth of hidden gem visits. The barge cruises one of two routes (Montauban to Agen or Agen to Castets) on a beautiful canal with one of the smoothest towpaths in France. Unlike most other waterways in the country, you will see few other boats, and there are no other quality charter barges able to moor right in the center of several wonderful little towns. Positively a delight for Francophiles and one of our favorites!

Meeting Point: Saturday afternoon in Toulouse, Montauban, or Agen.
