explora Lodges

As the company who pioneered the outdoor travel experience, Frontiers wholeheartedly embraces the philosophy of the explora lodges in Chile: "Born out of the desire to explore the natural and cultural environment of remote regions at the southern tip of South America. A feast for the senses, and repose for reason."

Patagonia is a vast region at the southernmost tip of South America. At the forefront is Chile's Torres del Paine National Park, encompassing approximately 600,000 acres and surrounded by the impressive Paine mountain range. Here amid glaciers, emerald lakes, mountainscapes, waterfalls and shining valleys, explora has redefined luxury with its 50-room Hotel Salto Chico, the perfect base from which to explore the remote. Four and 6-night programs are offered October through April; more flexibility is available May through September during the Patagonia winter when the savviest of travelers will encounter a totally different experience but with surprisingly mild weather.

The mysterious Atacama region, in the middle of the highest and driest desert in the world, has an appealing peculiarity that makes this year-round destination so unique: it is situated 8,200 feet above sea level amidst volcanoes, mountains, salt flats and hot springs. Traditions of pre-Columbian Andean cultures live through the archaeological monuments, religious festivities and local folklore. explora's 50-room Hotel de Larache is located near the village of San Pedro de Atacama and is formed by 20 small farming lots, which are respected and maintained as a historical testimony. A 3-night minimum stay is required.

Situated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and home to a culture whose origins and evolution are still largely unknown, Easter Island is an attractive and mysterious destination. A mild year-round climate allows for exploring the island's geography and coastline in search of the numerous ahus that are home to the gigantic moai. Posada de Mike Rapu, explora's new outpost on Easter Island, is situated on the island's southern edge. Distinctively remote - approximately 3.5 miles from Hanga Roa, the only town on the island - the lodge faces the roaring Pacific Ocean and the ancient Rano Raraku Volcano, the birthplace of the island's moai. The 30-room lodge is stylish and eye-catching and reflects the philosophy that has made explora one of the world's most-inspired travel concepts. A 3-night minimum stay is required.
