The ultra-deluxe, eight-passenger La Nouvelle Etoile is owned and operated by Jan Meijer, the Leonardo da Vinci of barge design. Being born into a Dutch shipping family, Jan certainly knows more than the average barge captain about design and navigation, and this barge is his “dream” vessel.
This graceful and elegant barge cruises a variety of regions: Holland in springtime for tulips, Northern Burgundy and the Champagne region in summertime, and Alsace in early autumn. She also cruises the enchanting Moselle in October, during which you can visit one of our favorite German castles, the 12th-century Burg Eltz. Another distinctive touch is that La Nouvelle Etoile accepts cabin bookings at all times, which is very unusual in the ultra-deluxe market.
In addition to Wi-Fi in each cabin, the spacious suites boast oversized showers, twin sinks, and rich interior paneling. The Christofle silverware and teak wood throughout give a dignified "old money” feel to this strong contender in the upper-crust barge market. La Nouvelle Etoile boasts a series of features typically unheard of on a canal barge, including a proper elevator, small washer and dryer for guest use, and one cabin that can very comfortably accommodate a handicapped guest.
