On April 29, 2019, our longtime partner, Rovos Rail, celebrated three decades in business! Since its first overnight journey with a seven-coach train to former Eastern Transvaal, Rovos Rail has expanded exponentially. Offering eight trips around Southern Africa, each member of Rovos Rail’s fleet can accommodate up to 72 passengers on a variety of itineraries ranging from 48 hours to 15 days.
Rovos Rail “The Pride of Africa” is one of the most luxurious trains in the world. A journey on board provides guests with the opportunity to recapture the romance of a bygone era by stepping aboard wood-paneled coaches and enjoying fine cuisine in five-star luxury. Frontiers has a long history working closely with Rohan Vos and the Rovos Rail family, especially on their 15-day itinerary that rolls across five countries: South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania.
Rovos Rail recently announced that they will be adding another train and introducing a new route called the Trail of Two Oceans. Set to depart for its maiden voyage in July 2019, this exciting journey will travel from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Lobito, Angola. It will be the first time in history that a passenger train will travel the east-to-west copper trail! Although this journey to Angola is already sold out for future departures, contact us to be included on a priority waitlist for new departure dates soon to be added.
Recently added to the fleet and restored in 2016, the Shongololo Express offers three journeys ranging from 12 to 15 days providing guests with a simpler, more elegant era encompassing the romance of African exploration in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Built on a strong foundation of determination and family-orientated values, Rovos Rail has continued to thrive and grow substantially over the past three decades. In celebration of their 30th anniversary, Rovos Rail is offering 30% off selected departures.
